Soapstone wax

The newest method for achieving a deep charcoal finish on soapstone countertops is to apply wax (specifically made for soapstone ). This method generally requires three applications – once weekly for three weeks, and then once yearly after that to get the same look. Bonus: It’s good for more than just soapstone , too. Our new soapstone dry wax conditioner will provide a lovely low luster finish as an alternative to the traditional mineral oil application.

The most common form of soapstone enhancement is mineral oil, which is a great product to use on the softer varieties of soapstone , such as Mariana, Barocca and Santa Rita. Dry- wax is a mixture of Carnauba wax and walnut oil. An application of oil or dry- wax masks and conceals most small scratches. Deeper scratches can be removed by sanding with common sandpaper. When applied in a thin layer it will be transparent.

Wax is your best bet and will require regular application. Also, wax tends to build up and needs to be stripped every now and then or the countertop will start to look dull. Anyhow, soapstone is just a high maintenance surface.
