Granite will transmit any vibration applied to it e. Putting an isolating material underneath the granite will minimise the transmission. Re: granite slabs under speakers The issue is the susceptibility of your floor to induced vibration. These stands have what is considered a B surface finish.
The earlier thread on homemade granite speaker bases was very interesting but I suspect its an expensive way to go. I wonder if anyone has experimented and come up with cheap but effective alternatives. My problem is that I need to place small floorstanders in a room with floorboards and laminate flooring. Mounting your speakers on good stands will dramatically improve their sound.
Our air-dried maple stands offer much warmer, clearer, punchier and more detailed sound than granite , slate, glass (the worst), myrtle or exotic hardwoods, or any of the hi-tech damped composites. These are ideal for subs and speakers that do not have inserts or require additional stability and isolation. Are we talking a thin platform to protect your floors, or are are we talking essentially speakers stands made of granite ? Specifically what brand and model are the speakers ? Will they be on the floor or are these shelf-top, cabinet-top, or desktop speakers ? How far up do you expect to raise the speakers ?
