The earlier thread on homemade granite speaker bases was very interesting but I suspect its an expensive way to go. I wonder if anyone has experimented and come up with cheap but effective alternatives. My problem is that I need to place small floorstanders in a room with floorboards and laminate flooring. I think your logic is different materials = different resonances = dissipation? I can see how that would work. My only reservation on your granite and aluminium composite is, even on a milling machine it is unlikely to be perfectly flat.

I havent seen any of their speaker stands use granite. Consider many studio speaker stands used for isolation. A Polystyrene sandwich with a neoprene or closed cell foam filling is a pretty good and pretty cheap isolation material.
