Granite bedrock is found from Canada to Minnesota in the United States. The granites there are known as being part of the Canadian Shiel and they are the oldest granite rocks on the continent. First mining and later logging and tourism have done more in 1years to alter the flavour of the mountain scenery in many areas than the actions of ice and water over millennia.
A large amalgamation of plutons is called a batholith. Over time, erosion scoured off much of the weaker volcanic rock above the granite , revealing domes and the widespread granite batholith that extends the length of the range. The white grains with sharp edges are feldspar.
