Some sinks mount differently to the counter but the majority of the vessel sinks I have seen mount with the vessel sink drain only. This is all that holds the sink onto the vanity top. Note that glass vessel sinks will usually require a mounting ring that sits on the counter and holds the vessel. Place the sink upside down over the sink hole in the countertop.
Make sure that the sink is centered over the sink hole. Feel around the edges underneath the countertop to ensure that the sink is centered. Select the appropriate type of replacement sink.
Single- and double-bowl drop-in sinks can be installed into most countertop surfaces. Because the MDF under laminate countertops gets ruined when it gets wet, you can’t install a normal undermount sink. Water gets in there, swells the MDF and warps your countertops. Use a utility knife to cut the template from the box. The installation of the sink is what literally gives it the edge compared to more traditional drop-in sinks. The edges for the undermount sink rest below the top of the counter so the space is continuous from counter top to the sink.
Usually most cast iron sinks will allow you to cut inside the traced perimeter at least in. You can trim the countertop to fit. Some cases might require a custom top. Take off the sink brackets and pull out the sink. Apply second bead on top of sink rim to waterproof the gap between the sink and the countertop.
